With a problem food stains on clothes, everyone without exception collides. Most housewives, in addition to a cookbook, have a notebook with secrets on how to save this or that thing from contamination. Ketchup and mayonnaise are often used to season dishes. When applied to clothing, both products create a problematic situation. It is not so easy to remove mayonnaise stains due to its greasy consistency. But experienced housewives are quite capable of this.
Difficulties in removing a fresh stain: emergency measures
It is difficult to remove mayonnaise stains not only because of the presence of fat. It contains many other components: eggs, mustard, emulsifiers, stabilizers, dyes. All of them eat into the fabric, making the stain more resistant to processing.
Oily stains are removed much more easilywhile it's fresh. The food components have not yet been absorbed into the fibers and active actions will solve the problem quickly and without loss. Step-by-step instructions for removing a fresh stain:
- Carefully remove any remaining mayonnaise without smearing or rubbing the stain.
- Blot the problem area with a paper towel, which will partially absorb the grease.
- Drop dishwashing liquid onto the surface of the clothing where it is dirty and leave it for 2-3 hours so that it breaks down fats.
- Wash the area of fabric with laundry soap.
- Wash the item as usual.
Features of removing old stains
If clothes with mayonnaise stains have been lying around for a long time, or the mayonnaise has dried out long ago, then the task of saving the damaged item becomes more difficult.
Use of household chemicals
Household chemicals are always “at hand”; they act gently on the fabric and will not damage the fibers during processing. We offer several options to choose from:
- Toothpaste white color is applied to the problem area and left for 30-40 minutes. Rinse, wash with laundry soap and sent to the machine.
- Stain removers in powder, liquid or solid form, they act on a range of compounds. This is important because mayonnaise contains more than one component. Carefully read the instructions and carry out processing according to the rules.
- Solvents such as alcohol, turpentine, white spirit act more aggressively, but also clean efficiently. Apply solvent to a cotton pad and treat the stain, moving from the periphery to the center. The item is rinsed and washed. Solvents are capable of coarse fabrics, from the fibers of which all the components of mayonnaise are extracted. They are used to remove stains on a jacket.
- Refined gasoline. The item is placed on a backing (paper napkin or cloth) with the wrong side out and the surface is treated with a cotton pad soaked in gasoline from the edge to the center so that the fat does not smear. Then the fabric is turned over, placed on a backing and the steps are repeated on the front side. Sprinkle talcum powder on top for 10-15 minutes so that it absorbs some of the gasoline.Rinse with water and dry. Use gasoline to remove stains on T-shirts and cotton shirts.
- Kitchen tool Unicum Gold, which is not known to all housewives. It “works” on greasy stains of any intensity. The product is sprayed onto the dirty area and rinsed with water. Removes the oldest stains, but should not remain on the fabric for a long time: the paint will be damaged.
- Vanish remedy. It appeared on the Russian market a long time ago and was tested by housewives. Since the range of these products is large, it is worth choosing a composition that acts as a stain remover. You should follow the instructions.
Use of improvised means
When you mix a number of ingredients, you get a good stain remover. Some of the resulting combinations are more aggressive and “work” with rough fabrics. For example, they can remove a stain on jeans. Let's consider several options for such products that are easy to prepare at home:
- A mixture of glycerin and ammonia. Take 1 tbsp. l. glycerin and mixed with 1 tsp. 10% ammonia. Treat the stain, leave for a few minutes and sent to the automatic machine.
- Salt with ammonia. Add 1 tsp to 100 ml of water. ammonia and 1 tsp. salt. Mix the mixture thoroughly and moisten the mayonnaise stain on the damaged item. Leave for 15 minutes to dissolve the stubborn components, rinse, and wash in the usual way. Suitable for synthetic fabrics.
- Salt, chalk, activated white carbon (use one of the compounds). These substances are good adsorbents that absorb contents from the contaminated area. They work well on fresh stains. Take fine salt, and grind coal or chalk into powder. Sprinkle the surface and leave for 30 minutes, shaking off and adding a new portion. The remaining mark is washed away with a soapy sponge. They wash it with laundry soap and then throw it into the washing machine. Sorbents include starch and talc, which are used in a similar way. Used on delicate fabrics, such as dresses.
Parting with a familiar and beloved thing is a sad story. Some people don't even try to save comfortable and familiar clothes. They are sure that it is impossible to defeat fat.
Cotemporary household chemicals offers many means and their combinations that can solve the problem. After processing, the item will look like new, and its owner will be joyful and satisfied.
