Yellow armpit spots appear on almost everyone and are difficult to wash off at home, but possible. There are a number of methods for this, based on household chemicals and folk methods.
Why do yellow spots appear?
Human sweat consists of many substances - acids and salts. One of the components is urea, which has a characteristic yellowish tint. Sweat is secreted by two types of glands:
- The eccrine glands secrete a secretion, that is, a liquid that consists of biologically active components, mainly salts. The sweat secreted by these glands is odorless and colorless.
- Apocrine (apocrine) glands secrete not only secretions, but also dead particles of the epithelium. This sweat contains acids, urea, salts and other substances. Because of this, it has an unpleasant odor and a yellowish tint. The color is not noticeable on the body, but on white underwear it may remain a yellowish tint.
How to remove deodorant stains
Stains from deodorant or sweat are most visible on white items. Deodorant often leaves white marks on clothes due to the talc in the composition, or red marks due to a mixture with human secretions. To remove these stains, you need to remember a few basic rules:
- Do not use hot water. Many housewives are accustomed to the fact that washing in boiling water is most effective. If this concerns organic secretions, then no. Sweat contains protein, which, when exposed to heat, literally boils and becomes firmly embedded in the fabric, after which it is almost impossible to wash the product.
- It is forbidden to bleach stains from deodorant or sweat with White. When it comes into contact with sweat residues, it reacts, causing the dirt to become even more noticeable and acquire a rusty-brown tint.
- To get rid of stains, the product must be carefully washed by hand at room temperature, using chemicals or improvised means - salt, soda, citric acid, vinegar.
Methods for removing yellowness with chemicals
To return clothes, especially if they are expensive, to their former cleanliness and freshness, you can use dry cleaning services, where they wash clothes using powerful equipment and chemicals that have a gentle but effective effect on the fabric. At home, you can use household chemicals sold in stores.
Vanish
Stains on white can be removed using stain removers. One popular one is Vanish Oxi Action. This is a universal stain remover for pre-treatment of fabric before washing. How to remove stains using folk remedies
In addition to chemicals, you can use improvised products that are found in every household: soda, vinegar, salt, citric acid. All these substances tend to absorb dirt, refresh and clean the fabric.
Soda
To remove stains and yellowing, it is better to use baking soda rather than baking soda. You need to make a paste containing 2 tbsp. l. soda and a little water, by eye. The result should be a homogeneous slurry with the consistency of sour cream. It must be applied to the pre-washed item in the area of contaminants and rub in gently. Leave it on for 10-20 minutes, then rinse and wash in the usual way.
Vinegar
Vinegar can be used alone or in combination with baking soda. In the first case, you need to apply vinegar to the armpits while wearing clothes, wait 15 minutes and wash. If the item smells strongly of sweat and has a lot of stains, you can dilute vinegar with water in a ratio of 1/3 and soak the item for 3 hours. After this, wash thoroughly in the machine.
In the second case, the clothing will be exposed to active foam. You need to prepare a solution: for 100 ml of water you will need 2 tbsp. l. dishwashing detergent, washing gel or liquid soap, 100 ml of vinegar 9% and 1 tbsp. l. soda Over a container with water and soap, you need to quench the soda with vinegar, stir everything until a homogeneous substance appears. Foam will appear on top, which is applied to the clothes, rubbed in and then washed.
Active foam can be used to wash whites, bedding and carpets. It is also used for washing plumbing fixtures and for cleaning tiles and lining.
Hydrogen peroxide
On white clothes, you can use hydrogen peroxide - a cheap remedy from the pharmacy. It removes all types of dirt and stains, and yellow discoloration from sweat is no exception. It is not recommended to use the drug in its pure form due to possible aggressive effects on the tissue. You need to stir 50 ml of peroxide and 10 ml of water, add 1 spoon of washing powder and 2 spoons of soda. The resulting slurry is applied to the stain. The exposure time depends on the intensity of the contamination, usually from 10 to 30 minutes.
Laundry soap
The main component of laundry soap is fatty acids. It is better to use 72% soap to remove various stains; it removes dirt more effectively. You can rub the armpit area with a bar, after wetting the product in warm water.
The second method is to grate the soap (or grind it in a blender), soak it in a little water and stir. The result is a sticky viscous liquid. It is applied to the stains and rubbed with a soft brush (or hands). If the stain is not removed the first time, the procedure can be repeated 2-3 times.
Aspirin
You can remove yellow spots using tablets based on acetylsalicylic acid. Aspirin can be used to remove dirt on colored and white items. It is also used for suede, nubuck, leather and other natural and synthetic fabrics.
The tablets need to be ground into powder and mixed with water. The paste is applied to the armpits and other areas from which stains need to be removed.Then the product is placed in a container and filled with warm water. Soak for 2 hours, after which it is washed by hand, and then in the typewriter, for effective results.
How to get rid of odor
Sweat, in addition to leaving red spots, has an unpleasant odor. Sweating is most common during adolescence, when apocrine glands develop and sweat begins to stink as an adult. In children, the secretion does not have a distinct odor and is yellow in color. To get rid of smell on clothes, you can use one of the following methods:
- outerwear can be hung outside if it is frosty there, after a few hours the unpleasant odors will disappear (not just sweat);
- natural lemon juice eliminates unpleasant odors, so it can be added when washing or rinsing (if you don’t have natural lemon on hand, you can use acid);
- Egg yolk and denatured alcohol (technical alcohol) should be mixed and applied to sweat stains, and washed after drying.
Preventing stains on clothes
It is not easy to remove sweat stains from all fabrics, so it is better to carry out prevention. First of all, it is important to maintain personal hygiene and shower 1-2 times a day. It is important not to forget about personal hygiene products – deodorants and antiperspirants. If you have hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), you need to consult a doctor to solve the problem.
Underwear needs to be changed daily, so that the pores of the skin do not become clogged and the clothes do not become so dirty that they cannot be washed later.
On a shirt or women's blouse, on the inside of the sleeve under the armpit, you can sew a special tab that will absorb sweat and thereby protect against the appearance of wet and yellow spots.
As a result, it should be noted that sweat stains remain on all types of fabric that come into contact with the skin. It’s just that stains on colored and dark things are not as visible as on white ones. You need to wash things regularly, and chemicals and folk remedies will help get rid of yellowness.
