Jackets on padding polyester have recently become popular because the filler is not natural. At the same time, it warms well in cold weather and is light in weight. Also, for many, the good news is that washing a padding polyester jacket in a washing machine does not require much effort.
Basic washing rules
Machine washing is not particularly delicate, and therefore you will either have to make an effort to ensure that the jacket looks good after washing, or abandon such an idea altogether. By following the rules below, you will not only preserve the appearance of the product, but also preserve its heat-saving properties, while eliminating stains:
- First of all, it is recommended that you read the information on the label. If the tag does not indicate automatic washing, then you should not tempt fate and try to get something worthwhile after machine cleaning.
- It is worth washing a jacket with padding polyester separately from all other things, since their appearance may be ruined if the filling comes out of the jacket.
- It will be possible to wash a product without streaks if you use detergents in the form of gel or capsule, since washing powder is difficult to wash out of the structure of the material.
- Do not soak the product, as in this case the filler may fall off and lumps may form.
- Repair work on the jacket must be carried out before washing, since otherwise its scale may increase, or the filler will simply come out.
- You need to check the pockets, fasten all the locks and zippers, and turn the product inside out. It is also worth removing the fur. If this is not possible, it is recommended to rip it off and sew it back after washing. You can also buy a special case at a hardware store that will help protect the product. If this is not possible, then you can simply take the fabric and carefully wrap the fur with it. In this case, you will need to secure this flap to the jacket in one way or another so that it does not come off during the washing process.
Mode selection
Washing mode It is also important when washing a jacket filled with padding polyester. It is necessary to select the optimal temperature and spin program. Manufacturers usually indicate this information on the product label, and therefore you need to carefully study these recommendations, as they will help preserve the appearance of the product for a longer period.If you do not have access to such information, then you should choose the most gentle cleaning methods. Optimal washing modes for products of this type:
- delicate wash;
- wool washing;
- handwash;
- synthetics.
It is also worth familiarizing yourself with the composition of the filler. If you see glued synthetic fiber in front of your eyes, then dry cleaning is required, since this raw material is of low quality and therefore requires the most careful handling. Suede and membrane material can only be washed by hand, but needle-punched or heat-bonded synthetic padding can also be machine washed. The market also often sells jackets made from mixed materials. They also require careful handling and it is better to follow the instructions on the label.
Temperature and spin
It is not recommended to use long modes for cleaning products, since synthetic winterizer does not like prolonged exposure to water. Typically, the duration of time is minimal at low temperatures. It is recommended to choose a temperature regime of up to 40 degrees Celsius, since at higher temperatures the quality of the filler noticeably deteriorates. For white options, it is also recommended to choose an even lower temperature - up to 30 degrees Celsius, since otherwise the material may begin to acquire a yellowish tint.
Jackets filled with synthetic padding require delicate cleaning. To wash them, you need to choose the most gentle modes. Also, do not use the automatic spin provided by the program.To prevent the filler from crumpling, it is recommended to either turn off the spin cycle altogether or set the minimum number of revolutions. The second case is only possible when the manufacturer recommended spinning on the label.
Manual mode
Before washing, it is recommended to inspect your winter jacket for stains. Most often they can be found on the collar, pockets and cuffs of the product, since in these places there is more contact with human skin. To remove these contaminants, you will need to use a solution of laundry soap, liquid laundry detergent, or a product in capsules and gels, since they will not disturb the structure of the fabric and will also have a beneficial effect on its appearance.
You can wash your jacket by hand if you don’t want to spend money on dry cleaning services, but to save your own effort and time, you can use a washing machine. The “Manual Mode” function is considered the most gentle and gentle on clothing. After washing, it is recommended to rinse the jacket several times to ensure that all the detergent is removed from it. This will also help avoid stains and white streaks.
Hand washing involves several stages. First of all, you need to fill a large container - a basin or a bathtub - with warm water, in which you should first dissolve the required amount of liquid detergent used for washing.If you use regular laundry soap, you must first wet the jacket and then rub the areas that require cleaning with laundry soap.
How to straighten padding polyester
After washing, the padding polyester in the jacket needs to be straightened out. You can do this manually. To do this, you will need to devote a lot of time to the jacket, since this is not an easy task. You need to shake the jacket, lay it out on a horizontal surface and carefully straighten the padding polyester with your fingers, returning it to its original place and breaking up all the lumps.
You can use a carpet beater for the same purposes. This option is not entirely gentle. You need to thoroughly wipe the beater so that it does not stain the just washed down jacket. You should wait until the product dries slightly, hang it on hangers and carefully beat it off. You should not make very strong movements, as this may negatively affect the surface of the jacket. As a result, the padding polyester will straighten itself and return to its original state.
If the padding polyester has fallen into clumps, then the beater should be replaced with a vacuum cleaner. With its help, it is worth treating the entire surface of the product. This must be done on still wet material.
Drying
It’s not enough to simply wash your winter jacket properly to ensure it looks presentable afterwards. It is also worth taking care of how it will be dried. This determines whether the padding polyester will fall off or not.After washing, you need to straighten the filler with your hands or other methods. In this case, it is worth laying it out on a horizontal surface.
If you hang a jacket on padding polyester on hangers and leave it to dry in this position, the jacket will begin to deform, since all the filling will fall down under the weight of the water. Therefore, the best option is to lay it out on the table, placing a towel under the down jacket. To remove excess moisture, you can wring out the down jacket with your hands using a towel.
You can speed up drying by using a fan. You need to hang the down jacket on the device, setting the device to maximum mode. After half an hour, you can turn it over. Synthetic fiber should not be dried using heaters, batteries or radiators. This can cause the filler to become matted and the material to shrink.
This can also affect the smell of the jacket - it will begin to exude a putrid aroma. However, in this case it will at least be possible to wash it. And if the product is damaged, it will be impossible to fix it, and therefore it is worth using natural drying conditions. It is also worth keeping an eye on how quickly this process goes. It usually takes no more than two days for complete drying.
If the jacket is made of nylon, then it is easier to survive this process - it can be dried in a machine. After this, you only need to iron the product by placing cushioning material, which can be gauze, between the jacket and the iron.Synthetic fabric cannot be used for these purposes, as it can damage the jacket.
Padded jackets are an excellent alternative for those who prefer not to use materials of animal origin. They provide warmth, look stylish, and, with proper care, retain a presentable appearance for a longer period. There are not many rules and recommendations for operation, and therefore you will not need to remember for a long time what and how to do.
