Anti-stress products look quite fragile. How to handle them is indicated on the tags or packaging. If the information is not saved, you just need to remember that you can wash anti-stress toys in a washing machine. Washing rules depend on several factors.
Type of filler
Anti-stress toys and pillows are made with different fillings. In retail sales there are products filled with:
- Polystyrene;
- padding polyester;
- buckwheat husk;
- bamboo;
- flax seeds.
Washing items with different fillings
Pillows with buckwheat husk, linen or bamboo filling are prepared for washing as follows:
- Pour the filling out of the case using the zipper on the side or back of the toy.
- Leave the filler in direct sunlight for several hours.
- If there are stains on the cover, they are treated laundry soap and leave it on 20 – 30 minutes.
The cover is machine washable at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees. It is better to dry it in a place that is protected from sunlight - this will help preserve the bright color of the product.
Bamboo pillows, unlike the others, are not afraid of water. They can be machine washed along with the contents if there are no prohibiting signs on the tag. Such things need to be dried according to general rules. Advantage of bamboo – it is hypoallergenic, suitable even for pregnant women and people with asthma.
Most often in retail sales you can find representatives of the “anti-stress” family, filled with polystyrene. There are certain washing rules for such products.
Preparing items for washing
Polystyrene is a non-allergenic material. Things with it are often given to children because it is safe. As a result, spots appear that require special attention. How to wash anti-stress toys stuffed with polystyrene:
- The filling does not need to be removed from the pillow or toy.
- The product must be checked for holes. If the seam comes apart or the fabric is frayed in some place, then during washing the filler will spill out of the toy. Small balls will clog the drain hole washing machine, and it will have to be repaired. To avoid this, you need to examine the toy in advance.
- If there are stains on the pillow, you need to get rid of them first. To do this, the product is treated with laundry soap or stain remover for colored fabrics, left for 20 - 30 minutes, rinsed and put into the machine. Some particularly delicate fabrics cannot be treated with chemicals; this is also indicated on the tag or packaging of the product. If the information has been erased, you can look for it on the toy manufacturer’s website.
- If you need to wash several multi-colored pillows, you should make sure that they do not fade.To do this, you can place each toy in water for a short time. A low-quality dye shows up immediately – the water becomes colored. It is better to wash this anti-stress toy separately or by hand.
- Before washing, items are placed in special laundry bags. They can be successfully replaced by a regular pillowcase that needs to be tied. This will protect the washing machine from polystyrene beads if something breaks.
Washing toys
Once the cushions have been checked for durability and paint quality, cleaned of stains and placed in a bag, you can proceed to the next step. The drum should not be filled to capacity. By filling it to a maximum of two-thirds, you can be sure that the contents will be rinsed well.
Before starting the program, you can drop 2 drops of ammonia into the drum. This will help keep the color of the pillows vibrant. Unpleasant odor is removed after rinsing with a couple of drops of essential oils.
Add to the powder compartment gel or liquid powder. If you wish, you can place the product directly into the drum - this will not affect the result.
The most suitable product is wool gel. It is completely washed out of the fabric. You will need a little less product than what is recommended on the package. So, if the normal amount of gel per session is 1 measuring cup, then for products with polystyrene 2/3 of a cup is enough.
The washing mode depends on the machine model. Be sure to set the temperature to no more than 40 degrees. Minimum spinning is required - 400, in extreme cases 600revolutions. If the machine does not provide such low revolutions, you will have to refuse spinning. It is advisable to add an additional rinse. Modes suitable for washing:
Now you can start the program. The anti-stress pillow should be washed at least once a month. If it is used by children, it is permissible to wash every two weeks.
Drying anti-stress toys
After the end of the cycle, the next stage of cleaning begins - drying. Here, too, there are rules, the observance of which will prolong the life of anti-stress assistants.
The operation takes place in several stages:
- Wrap the washed item in a towel and collect excess moisture by lightly pressing the fabric with your fingers over the entire area. Spread a dry towel on a horizontal surface away from sunlight and heat sources. It is important to maintain the temperature regime to preserve the filler.
- Place the pillow on the towel in a horizontal position.
- It is allowed to dry the product vertically. But in this case, the filler will cake at the bottom and will not be able to dry for a long time. You need to shake the toy every
30 minutes. About once an hour, turn the product over and put it in a dry place. If the towel is completely wet, it is better to replace it.
- Anti-stress pillows dry quickly. You can use them the next morning after washing.
Each item has an expiration date. In order for the anti-stress to survive until its end, it is important to know some subtleties:
