It is no secret that many owners of automatic washing machines, after starting the wash, go to do other things. And there are often cases when the user returns to the device and sees foam on the floor and around the body of the machine. What to do if a lot of foam forms in the washing machine? We'll try to find out in this article.
What do we have to do?
What should you do when foam comes out of your washing equipment? Is it harmful to the machine?
Therefore, it is necessary to immediately take the following measures:
- Stop the washing program. Next, you need to disconnect the machine from the electrical network.
- Drain the water from the container. This is done through the drain hatch located on the front panel, in its lower part.
- Open the hatch door. Remove all items from the drum.
- Skim off the remaining foam by hand. Thoroughly clean the drum of the machine.
- Turn on rinse to reduce the amount of foam.
- Rinse and drain until the foam goes away.
When the equipment returns to its normal state, you can diagnose the malfunction.
Main reasons
You should not immediately start the laundry process after getting rid of the foam. You need to find out why the malfunction occurred.
There are several reasons why excess foam may form:
- First of all, you need to check the powder that was used for washing. You may have accidentally selected a powder intended for hand washing. This may cause a lot of foam to appear. The fact is that powders that are not intended for machine washing do not contain defoamers. This is why the powder foams strongly during intensive washing.
- The dose of powder was exceeded. To prevent this from happening, use measuring spoons and follow the instructions.
- The drum contained things that whipped foam. Do not load the machine drum to capacity with light and porous items. Such things include down jackets, tulle, curtains. Bulky items should be washed separately. And if things are made of light fabric, the drum only needs to be filled halfway. In this case, you can reduce the dose of washing powder. Otherwise, the laundry will rinse with foam.
If you do not find the reasons listed above, then the reason for the formation of a large amount of foam is due to a malfunction.
Troubleshooting
When washing clothes, enough foam should be formed to wash the clothes. However, if the foam begins to come out through the top of the machine, then the cuff has failed.
The main function of the sealing rubber is to seal the hatch and protect against leaks. The cuff may be torn during washing by some foreign object or simply become worn out. Rubber is also affected by fungus and mold.
If foam flows out from under the washer or through the top, then the inside of the cuff is torn. In this case, its urgent replacement is required.
You can purchase the cuff through the online store. To do this, you need to know the model of the washing machine.
The cuff is replaced as follows:
- First you need to open the hatch door;
- Next, you need to unscrew the screws securing the UBL lock;
- Bend the cuff and remove the outer clamp;
- Then you need to remove the top clamp. To do this, you will need to remove the top cover of the washing machine by unscrewing two fasteners from the back.
- Remove the cuff from the tank.
- Next, you need to clean the grooves in the places where the rubber is located and install a new cuff.
If soapy water appears under the machine, the cause may be a problem with the drainage system.
In this case, you need to proceed as follows:
- First of all, the water is drained from the tank. Next you need to remove the foam.
- Carefully inspect the entire drain system.
- Remove the back panel of the machine. To do this, you need to unscrew the fasteners located on the back side.
- Check the condition of the drain pipe. The damaged part will leak foam.
- Unscrew the bolt and then loosen the pipe clamp.
- Disconnect the pipe and replace it with a new one.
Then you need to check the serviceability of the drain pump and the condition of the drain hose. You also need to inspect the attachment of this hose to the sewer. Loose connectors must be secured.
The machine produces little foam
In some cases, the opposite situation occurs: foam does not form in the drum of the machine, as a result of which things are washed poorly.
This may happen for the following reasons:
- The water used for washing is too hard. Such water has a high concentration of salts. This is why little foam is formed. To eliminate this reason, you need to install a purification filter to soften the water.
- Poor quality or unsuitable washing powder. In this case, a different powder should be used.
- The heating element is faulty. If the water is cold, the powder will not dissolve well. As a result, insufficient foam will be produced. Instead of underwear there will be white stains. Here you need to check the heating element. If it is faulty, replace it with a new one.
Preventing foam clouds
To ensure that a lot of foam does not form in the washing machine, the following rules must be observed:
- Do not use washing machine detergent intended for hand washing.
- Use quality washing powder.
- Do not pour excessive amounts of powder into the washing machine. According to experts, it is better to slightly reduce the dose of the drug than to exceed it.
- If soft water is used to wash clothes, then the dose of powder specified by the manufacturer should be reduced by half.
- When washing bulky items, you need to add one third of the amount of washing powder.
