If the washing equipment pump fails, there are two options for solving the problem. The first is calling a technician to your home or transporting the washing mashine to a repair shop. The second is to replace the washing machine drain pump with your own hands. The owner himself decides what to do, but it is important to understand that you should undertake repairs only if you have knowledge, skills and experience.
Frequent drainage system malfunctions
If After washing the water does not drain, but you can hear the characteristic noise of a running pump, perhaps everything is not so bad. It is likely that the pump is working properly, it works, but can't pump out water. The main reason for this phenomenon is blockage. To correct the situation, it is necessary to completely check the drain system. You should start with filter, then see if threads are wound around the impeller, preventing its normal rotation. You will also have to check the drain hose and make sure that the sewer pipes are in good condition.
If the problem is not a blockage, the cause should be sought in the pump itself. One of the possible malfunctions is lack of power. It's easy to check this version. It is enough to inspect the wires going to the pump and make sure there is a circuit with a tester.
In most models, the pump is located at the bottom, under the drum; to access it, simply remove the rear or bottom cover.
Choosing a pump to replace
You can buy a suitable pump both in specialized stores and on the Internet. Despite the large assortment, many pump models are completely interchangeable. However, it is important to choose a device that is recommended by the manufacturer of a particular washing machine.
The pumps themselves are distinguished by a number of parameters, one of the most important being the type of fastening. There are:
- bolted (mostly 3 bolts);
- on latches (depending on the model, from 3 to 8 pieces are used);
- using combined type fastenings.
There are also differences in the power connection. Separate terminals or chips of a certain configuration can be used. The contacts themselves can be located in the back or front of it. But the power indicators of most pumps are at the same level, approximately 19-20 W.
Replacing the drain pump
The procedure for replacing a pump in a washing machine begins with dismantling the faulty device. But even before starting work, you must carefully study the documentation that comes with the machine. The fact is that washing mashines from different manufacturers have different designs. You need to understand the location of components and assemblies and only then take up a screwdriver.
Replacing the pump through the bottom
It is enough to simply replace the pump in washing machines that allow replacement through the bottom panel.These are most models from Samsung, Indesit, LG, Ariston and some other manufacturers.
You need to follow a sequence of simple steps:
- turn off the power;
- close the water;
- lay the washing mashine on its side, with the pump on top;
- remove the bottom panel;
- unscrew or remove the drain pump from the clamps;
- place a container under it to drain the remaining water;
- loosen the clamps holding the supply hoses;
- remove the pump.
Replacement via front cover
Not all models allow the pump to be replaced using the previous method, for example, devices manufactured by Bosch, Siemens, AEG. Here you will have to proceed in a different way - to get to the engine through the front cover.
First of all, you need to unscrew the two fasteners located on the rear panel, and then remove the housing cover. Next is the crucial moment - the panel with the controls is removed. For this it is necessary remove the dispenser, unscrew the two screws. Carefully remove the panel and place it on top of the machine.
After this, you should loosen the clamp holding the cuff and tuck it inside the tank. Remove the remaining fasteners that hold the front panel in place. Remove it by pulling it towards you.
Access to the engine is open. All that remains is to disconnect the power wires, unscrew the pump (in some models, remove it from the latches) and replace it with a new one.
Access to the pump after removing the bottom bar
Perhaps the easiest way to replace the pump was offered by the manufacturers of Hansa washing machines. Access to the pump is extremely easy. There is no need to disassemble the machine; moreover, it does not even need to be moved. Simply remove the bottom strip of the front cover, behind which the pump is located.Further replacement actions will not cause any difficulties.
Through the back or side cover
In most cases, replacing the pump in top-loading washing machines requires removing one side panel. Electrolux and Zanussi models allow you to access the pump by removing the back panel. Similar steps should be taken to repair machines from some less common manufacturers.
Fault prevention
To avoid unscheduled repairs, you should follow a few simple rules:
- carefully inspect the laundry, do not allow small parts to get into the machine;
- Do not wash clothes that are too dirty, it is better to soak them first;
- Things that can cause a blockage (with long threads, lint, pellets) should be washed only in special bags.
